« Back to What We Do

Congratulations on your pregnancy! We look forward to serving you during your pregnancy and following it. We are here for you. Know that we pray for you and your family daily. Please ask questions and tell us how you are feeling from visit to visit. We encourage you to write down your questions and bring them to your next visit.

Due to the fact that each Tepeyac doctor cannot be on call seven days a week for 24 hours a day, it is the policy of this practice that all prenatal patients rotate obstetric appointments through the doctors and physician assistant. Meeting our medical staff is done for the welfare and protection of both the patient and the physician. By following this procedure, the patient is familiar with all our delivering doctors and that each doctor is familiar with the patient.

Labor and delivery is arranged at Fair Oaks Hospital (about 15 minutes from the office | map link). Pre-admission registration forms are available at our office.

We ask that patients with birth plans discuss the plans with the doctor. Our doctors do their utmost to respect the plans of patients, however, each patient and her delivery are unique, and unplanned/unexpected medical situations may occur. The doctor will provide his/her best medical judgement that emphasizes safety of mother and baby.

Tepeyac also offers in-office Level I and 20 Week/Level II Ultrasounds. Check with your doctor to find out if the Level II ultrasound is right for you. Please be aware that your baby may not be in an ideal position during the scheduled ultrasound, and you may have to reschedule. Contact your insurance provider because a rescheduled ultrasound may incur an additional cost. For more information about ultrasound offered by Tepeyac, follow this link: Ultrasound Services

Tepeyac Baby Pictures™ is an optional 3D/4D ultrasound program that enables you to see and bond with your unborn baby. There are two available packages with a number of additional mementos. Tepeyac Baby Pictures™ are provided by a professionally trained sonographer at Tepeyac’s medical office. Wonderfully Made! is a twenty minute ultrasound session using 3D/4D technology to reveal your baby’s features and movements and includes both photos and video. The best time to schedule this session is between 26 and 33 weeks of pregnancy. The Genesis Package is a twenty minute ultrasound session that is performed at 16-20 weeks and includes a 2D gender determination scan, as well as a 3D scan of your baby in the same session if requested. Each package is $129. Contact Tepeyac for more information.

Further In this section, you will find information on some common topics and general information regarding your pregnancy. This is general information and you should feel free to discuss any specific concerns at your next visit. If you have any immediate questions please contact the Tepeyac Family Center Office nurses line at (703) 273-9440, ext. 126.

Morning Sickness

You should know the following…

  • You're not alone. 50-80% of pregnant women suffer from nausea and vomiting in pregnancy.
  • Dispel the myth. Morning sickness can and does occur at any time of day or night—not just the morning.
  • You won't suffer forever. Usually the worst morning sickness occurs during the first 12-14 weeks of pregnancy. (For a few women it can last throughout the whole pregnancy or disappear then return in the third trimester.)
  • Why? While the exact cause is not known, often morning sickness is caused by the major hormonal changes going on in your body.
  • What helps? Keeping your stomach from being completely empty can help. Eat small meals and eat them often. Protein helps a lot, so make sure you are eating plenty of protein-rich foods. Peanut butter, cheese and crackers, yogurt with granola, and cottage cheese are all excellent snack choices.  Ginger (e.g. ale, tea, snaps, etc.) and peppermint are known to soothe the stomach. Vitamin B6 50mg and one pill of Unisom taken together can also ease your queasiness. We recommend taking this at night, but you can take it as often as every eight hours. Talk to your doctor about temporarily stopping or switching your prenatal vitamin. Avoid unpleasant odors.
  • What if nothing is working? Contact your provider. Medication can be prescribed if your morning sickness is out of control. Your provider may ask you if you’ve been gaining or losing weight. Some weight loss is okay, but talk with your doctor if you are concerned about your weight at all.
  • Is my baby okay if I'm vomiting a lot? Your baby's well-being is not affected as long as you are able to keep some food down and as long as you are drinking plenty of fluids. Don't worry too much if your diet is not as healthy as you'd like it to be at this point. Eat what your body can keep down. Again, if you have any concerns about the health of your baby, don't hesitate to call the office.

If you have additional questions, please ask to speak with a nurse. Our triage nurse phone number is 703-273-9440, ext. 126.
